You will need:

Small owl toy.

Cardboard box with a hole in it and painted to look like a tree trunk.

Craft feathers.

Twigs

Paper tissue leaves.

Chocolate drops/chips in bag labelled “Owl Droppings”

Switch with “I want my Mummy!” recorded on it.

Forked branch with thick branch, thin branch and small branch with ivy on it.

Black cover.

Torch or light.

 

Page 1

Show tree trunk with Bill inside the box. 

Take Bill out, let children feel the toy owl, then the twigs, leaves and feathers.                                             

Say “But there is also something else in the nest – owl droppings!”  Show packet of owl droppings.  Let children taste some. Put Bill back in the nest.

Press switch to hear Bill say “I want my Mummy!”

Place finger on head to indicate thinking.

Press switch to hear Bill say “I want my Mummy!”

Pages 4 and 5

Take Bill out of nest.  Show children the branch, ask them to point to Sarah’s branch, Percy’s branch and Bill’s ivy.  Put Bill on his branch.

Press switch to hear Bill say “I want my Mummy!”

Put black cover over children’s heads.  Shine torch under the cover.

Press switch to hear Bill say “I want my Mummy!”

Move Bill to Sarah’s branch.

Close eyes.
