Day 1 is the first part of a two day workshop supporting all those who care for people with PMLD to understand the significant impact of sensory processing on the individual.

Susan Doogan has been working as a Paediatric Occupational Therapist for 24 years in both NHS and private practice. She spent 10 years working in the special needs school environment where she used her sensory integration training to meet the sensory-behaviour needs of the school’s PMLD population. Susan is passionate about empowering parents/carers and professionals through teaching.

Motorvate Therapies is a Social Enterprise company (not for profit) which works specifically with young people/adults who have developmental/learning challenges and provide support, consultation and education for their families/carers and professionals: www.motorvatetherapies.co.uk

Day 1: How does it feel? The first day will provide you with an understanding of Sensory/Motor Development and how this impacts on the person with PMLD.

You will have the opportunity to experience some of the difficulties a person may face during a hands-on fun practical session. You will also be offered the opportunity to document specific difficulties your son/daughter/the person you care for may be experiencing in relation to sensory processing. You will be able to explore specific strategies for these in more detail on Day 2.

Day 2: What can we do?Using the information gathered from the end of Day 1, this session uses case studies to facilitate discussion, share strategies that have been useful and learn new ones.

This session will provide you with increased confidence to understand the reasons for some of the sensory-behaviour challenges you face on a day to day basis. You will be provided with a follow up pack which includes a comprehensive package of strategies discussed on the day.
