New dates for First Aid training announced!

PAMIS have launched 6 new dates for First Aid training (with profound and multiple learning disabilities specific information) across 5 locations.

There are now four Emergency First Aid at Work courses available to book, all with a PMLD focus. These are on day courses and will be running in Dundee, Glasgow, Kirkcaldy and Aberdeen. These one -day courses are priced at £95 (plus booking fee if booked through Eventbrite).

The course is the accredited Emergency First Aid at Work course, and as such stands on it’s own. The PMLD element comes into adapting first aid to the particular needs of people who have a PMLD, so we pay additional regard to CPR when someone has a compromised body shape, epilepsy management, postural care, and airway management.

You will gain an award in Emergency First Aid at Work at SCQF Level 6. You will also receive AED training- Automated External Defibrilator.

A range of subjects are covered including:

Responsibilities and reporting
Assessment of the situation
Dealing with an unresponsive casualty
Basic hygiene in First Aid
Burns
Epilepsy
Resuscitation
Anatomy
Minor injuries
Bleeding control
Choking
Shock

Specialist input to include the needs of people who have profound and multiple disabilities and complex health needs.

This course is hugely beneficial for:

  • People who are involved in the day to day care of individuals who have a profound and multiple disability.
    People who are involved in caring for individuals who have disabilities.
    People who need to hold the Award in Emergency First Aid at Work at SCQF Level 6
    Organisations who need to satisfy the requirements of the regulatory body for First Aid- The Health and Safety Executive HSE)

PAMIS will also be running two 3-day First Aid at Work (with profound and multiple disabilities specific information) courses  which will be taking place in Perth and Edinburgh. These three -day courses are priced at £285 (plus booking fee if booked through Eventbrite).

The three day First Aid at Work course is a level 6 qualification and covers a wide range of first aid emergencies, enabling all participants to deal with emergency situations with confidence in a prompt, safe and effective way.

This course will give the participants a qualification to the highest level of First Aid, meeting the statutory requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

A range of subjects are covered including:-

  • Legalities, responsibilities and reporting
  • Dealing with an unresponsive casualty
  • Fractures and spinal injuries
  • Control of bleeding
  • Poisoning
  • Burns
  • Epilepsy
  • Resuscitation and AED awareness
  • Bandaging
  • Heart attacks
  • Head injuries
  • Chest injuries
  • Asthma
  • Stroke
  • Assessment of the situation
  • Shock (including Anaphylaxis)
  • Choking
  • Eye injuries
  • Sprains and strains
  • Diabetes

We also include specific information relating to treating people with a profound and multiple learning disabilities.

There is an ongoing summative practical assessment by the instructor each day, along with a written assessment for unit 2.

A three year Level 6 Award in First Aid at Work will be issued to the learner, subject to successful assessment.
