Changing Places Toilets Scotland

At PAMIS, we believe that everyone has the right to live a full and inclusive life — and that includes access to safe, hygienic and dignified toilet facilities. Changing Places Toilets are essential for people with profound learning and multiple disabilities (PMLD) and others who require additional support when using the toilet.

Unlike standard accessible toilets, Changing Places Toilets provide additional space and the correct equipment – including a peninsular toilet, a height-adjustable, adult-sized changing bench and ceiling track hoist – needed to meet the personal care needs of people with complex disabilities and their carers. Without these facilities, many families are forced to change loved ones in unsanitary places, such as toilet floors risking injury, or cut outings short or not go out at all, leading to exclusion and isolation.

We work alongside families, local authorities, and organisations to promote the development and awareness of Changing Places Toilets throughout Scotland. We also co-founded and Chair the UK Changing Places Toilet Consortium, which aims to create more Changing Places toilets across the UK. Together, we are creating a more accessible and inclusive society — one toilet at a time.
